USA Made Products

What is the best way to support local businesses, whether they’re next door to you or a couple of states over? Buying products made in the USA not only allows individuals and companies to support their fellow Americans, but also supports the economy, creates jobs, ensures quality of both products and working conditions, and doesn’t add tariffs onto cost. In this post, we will be diving into the benefits of buying USA made products.

Buying USA products keeps jobs in the country, as opposed to outsourcing them to other countries. While this will not always be the case, and depends on the product, the company, and the materials necessary, if goods are able to be produced and quality is able to be kept, jobs will continue to stay where they are: here in the United States. 

One of the most important reasons why jobs staying in the United States is important, beyond economic ramifications, is that U.S. labor laws ensure a better working environment and quality than those in other countries. Some examples of this are:

• Many other counties allow and utilize child workers. 
• Children under the age of 18 are not allowed to work in hazardous positions in the U.S.
• The U.S. requires employees to be paid a reasonable wage and has limits on hours worked.

Unfortunately, many U.S. based companies whose products are manufactured or made out of country, do not abide by child labor laws, often employing young children, putting them in dangerous situations, and paying them almost nothing. When buying American made products, however, there should not be any worry when it comes to labor laws and whether or not they’re being followed.

In addition to better quality of life for workers, American made products may also be of higher quality. Now, this isn’t always the case, but a lot of products made in the U.S. will be more durable, flavorful, higher quality, and/or expensive. 

• Products made in the U.S. are not travelling all over the world
• Less transportation allows products to get to you in a more timely manner 
• Products will be made by people who are of age, have training, and have proper safety standards in place
• Buying materials can be incredibly expensive and many are not readily available in the U.S. causing prices to rise

And last, but certainly not least, especially now, American made products do not have tariffs on them. Tariffs are taxes placed on imported goods that go to another country. Many countries have tariffs in place on items that the United States imports. This number, currently is rising, even among U.S. allies and countries that have not, in the past, placed tariffs on items going to the United States.

• Items made in the United States don’t have tariffs

Although it is not always possible to, nor always the most desirable way to go about shopping, buying American products is a great way to support your fellow Americans, and now possibly your bank account. Of course, this can change with every decision a government official makes, or a law put in place, but more often than not, especially now, USA products are the ones to buy if you want to support your local economy, fellow Americans, your bank account, and workers rights. Buying products made in a different country doesn’t automatically mean that you’re not doing the above, but is an almost sure way that you are able to support those working in American companies. There is nothing wrong with buying products made out of country as long as you do your research to ensure that you’re buying from those who have both yours and their fellow employees best interest at heart.
